Materials: custom optical sensors, wire, tubing, computer, digital projector, serial interface
Dimensions: Variable, space on documentation is approx. 14’w x 10’h x 16’d
What it is: “Left/Right, In/Out” uses custom sensors to generate a silent cinematic experience that attempts to redirect the viewers gaze back onto the other viewers within that space. It is an interactive artwork that heightens community interaction by the generation of short narratives of a figure going in and out of common objects and interfaces. The viewer must move right and left to generate these short in/out narratives. But if more than one narrative is triggered at the same time they serve to block, conceal, or abstract the other action. The viewer attention is then redirected back into the physical space to the other inhabitants. Since the space is silent, viewers are free to speak to one another to discuss the interface.
