What is it:
Bad Boys III is an autonomous generative installation with a computer, projector, microcontroller, microphones, fan, copper wire, light emitting diodes (led), motors, clips, containers, and a television that flicker, rotate, and vibrate triggered by the sound of the movie Bad Boys II. The louder the voices, music, and sound effects are in the Bad Boys movie, the brighter the leds shine and the faster the motors and fans turn and vibrate. The more active the sounds are in the "Bad Boys II" movie, the more active the motors, visuals, and sounds become in the gallery space. If the sounds are rhythmic, then the motors turn to a rhythm, by speeding up, slowing down, and frequent pauses.
The sound from the movie is ported to a set of headphones, where two microphones have been placed to capture and translate that sound into light and motor output.
The digital projection is a meditative, rotating morphing gear-like structure that serves to mimic the motor functions occuring in "real space." The television playing the movie "Bad Boys II" is set to face the corner which is covered by a crumpled piece of aluminum foil. The television screen's reflected light off of the two walls that meet in the corner generates an actively and continually changing color field display that projects the visible changes over the course of the Bad Boys II movie.
